Martin
Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast
-
Each
year a morning meal celebrating the life and values of Rev. Martin Luther
King Jr. is co-sponsored with the "No Place for Hate"
Committee. In 2008 it was held at Pilgrim Church in Duxbury on
1/21/2008 at 8:15
AM.
Program:
Processional Hymn: "The Storm is Passing Over" - Tindley
Welcome: Rev Peggy O'Neil Files & Harry Katz
Opening Prayer: Kevin McNally
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
God of justice, whenever we settle for the way things are
instead of your way of justice, forgive us. Whenever we are paralyzed by
fear or limited in vision, increase our trust in you. Whenever we offer
charity but fail to work with for justice, show us a more excellent way.
Whenever we tire of the struggle for tomorrow, restore our hope. May the
witness of our brother Martin encourage us to be both dreamers and
doers. Amen.
Assurance of God's Pardon (in unison)
If by reflection and prayer we are freed to acknowledge
the wrongs around us, the pain among us, the sin within us and the work before
us, God's mission of peace and justice is being revealed. Always
remember and never forget: our burden has been lifted and God's liberating
love lives within!
Musical Offering: "Wounded Dove" - Ripley
Essay "Continuing Martin Luther King Jr.'s Dream"
Greeting: Andre Martecchini
Musical Offering "I'm Gonna Sing" - Traditional Spiritual
Readings from the Baha'i Faith - Sherry Murphy
Closing Prayer (in unison)
Incline your ear, O God of mercy and justice.
Together with one voice we affirm the words of Dr. King. We will work
for a world where lives are enriched by difference; where people of diversity
but unified by God work together in Shalom for the good of the whole. We
will work for a nation where persons will be judged solely upon the content of
their characters. We will never give up our hope for equality, dignity
and respect for one another. We will overcome because we put our faith
and trust in God. Amen.
